Boots on ground at Cannon Range Published Dec. 29, 2008 By Master Sgt. Richard Champ 131 Fighter Wing Financial Management Cannon Range -- Command Chief Master Sgt. Lisa Kessinger, 131st Fighter Wing, visited the Airmen of Detachment 1 Cannon Range late October to speak with the Senior Enlisted members to gain feedback on "how the Wing can better serve the men and women." A plan was developed to bring a specific "Wing Team" to Cannon Range to help educate members from the 131st FW about the Cannon Range mission, give a better understanding of who they are and what they do, and at the same time, help with any issues at hand. Members from the "Wing Team" broke into groups with members from Cannon Range to talk, ask and answer questions and to listen to all the great things that have been accomplished at the range. The "Wing Team" was astonished by the duties performed by the Cannon Range personnel. Most had at least 2 or 3 Air Force Specialty Codes and many degrees in various fields. They were all capable of fighting forest fires, trapping wild animals, and operating every type of vehicle/equipment on site. DET 1 is made up of 11 full time personnel, nine of which are enlisted. All the members are Active Guard Reserve. The "Wing Team" consisted of members from Finance, Mission Support, Human Resource, Communications Flight and Logistics Readiness. Maj. Scott Doby, 131st FW chaplain, and Master Sgt. Eric Hugo, 131st FW First Sergeant, also accompanied the team. The members at Cannon Range really need the support of everyone from Lambert; they cannot accomplish all the work with the minimal staff they have.
